Anyone who has played golf for any length of time quickly comes to realize how expensive this hobby can become. Between the greens fees, equipment and buckets of balls at the range, you can easily eat up most of your income just to enjoy this wonderful game. However, golf is not a game that is just for the wealthy. With a little bit of creativity, you can enjoy golf on a shoestring budget.

Golf clubs can easily run over a thousand dollars if you buy the latest technology. But if you are just beginning, you don’t need such fancy equipment. Indeed, your best bet is to buy used clubs at the beginning until you figure out how serious you want to take the game.

If you want to really play the game well, you need to practice a lot. This can be expensive if you do that practice at the driving range. Instead, just go to an open field and take some swings with your wedge. And if there is no open space available to you, just buy some plastic balls and practice in your backyard.

As for greens fees, you are probably better off spending more time practicing at first than going out to the course. A golf course is not a place to work on your swing. But when you do go, try finding a county-owned course in your area; they will tend to be cheaper, especially if you are a resident of that county. As well, some courses have special 9-hole rates on weekday afternoons when business is slow.

By making a few compromises, you can enjoy this game without breaking the bank.
